Web and City Intranet Manager/Developer

2007-2013

Responsible for the city's external Web presence and Intranet applications distributed over 14 municipal departments, including the police & fire Departments. Redesigned and launched the city's website on 1-3-2008.

Restructured and transitioned the city's internal communication system from a "sneaker-net" with several dozen disparate MS Access database and Excel flat files to a true RDMS using Coldfusion and MS SQL Server backend and a browser-based front end. This resulted in significant improvements in employee productivity, taxpayer/customer interface and information reporting management.

Automated city clerk records, city help desk, city permitting processes, city contract processes and harbor slip and mooring waiting lists.

Automated the Newport Fire Department's city-wide fire alarm location, restaurant fire suppression systems including yearly inspection data.

Designed, developed, and deployed automated parking lot collection fee application.

Identified need and built solution for Municipal Vendor Bidding and Notification system. System was deployed to 15 other cities and towns across RI and eventually became a revenue stream for the City of Newport.

Responsible for the design, development, testing, deployment and maintenance of the University's 2700+ page Website.

Architected the creation of the University's website(s), integrating the informational requirements of 50+ academic and professional departments and 7 affiliated external organizations to ensure an image consistent with the University's strategic objectives.

Provided seamless integrative functionality through the design, development, testing, deployment and maintenance of 12 database-driven content management systems, including Human Resource's online employment application system using Coldfusion/SQL Server.

Identified and resolved Web-based delivery issues, both technical and content related.

Established, led interdisciplinary team to shape the University's internet/intranet presence.

Lappé is the author of 19 books including the three-million-copy selling 1971 book Diet for a Small Planet.

Worked with writers and editors under deadlines to update the news Web site and distribute stories to all major news services.

In 1999, The American News Service articles consistently published in the U.S. top 100 newspapers.
